PRE-K LESSON PLANS
Group 1: Emotional Health

Be an actor! Learn efficient ways of solving problems and expressing your feelings by acting out common scenarios.

Group 2: Mental Health
1. READING FOR MEANING (Pre-K)
Learn how to be a good reader! Learn effective reading techniques to increase comprehension.
2. DISSECTING THE BRAIN / KWL (Pre-K)
Increase comprehension in 3 easy steps using the KWL chart.
3. COLOR CODING THE FOOD GROUPS (Pre-K)
Use color coding to categorize new concepts and increase overall comprehension.
Group 3: Physical Health
1. RELAY RACE FOR EXERCISE (Pre-K)
Get your exercise by running a relay race. Use teamwork to achieve your goal.
Use the "Brush Your Teeth Star" Chart to encourage your kids to brush twice a day.
Boost self-awareness by taking the time to get to know yourself.
Keep track of your regular eating habits to determine your health patterns.

K-2 LESSON PLANS
The following lesson plans were designed to correlate with the California State Standards for Health in grades K-2. Is is suggested that you introduce these subjects and activities in the order that they are listed. Use them as you see fit in your classroom and have fun with them!
Lesson Plans Group 1
Children learn to recognize all of the facets of health through organized discussion, thus building upon what they know.
Children are engaged in the process of creating their own Health Word Wall in their classroom.
Children help each other learn to prevent illness through group driven reflection and research. They present their findings to the rest of the class in a poster presentation.
Through group discussion, children learn about ways to be safe as they reflect upon and share experiences of personal injuries in an effort to prevent future common childhood injuries.
Children discuss the various doctors they see on a regular basis and understand what their purpose is. A follow up worksheet is recommended for their personal portfolios.
Lesson Plans Group 2
Children and parents alike will learn how to identify healthy eating habits they have and areas they should improve. They will document these healthy habits into a health log with the help of a parent or guardian.
Students will pay a visit to the cafeteria, the nurse and the playground to assess how their school supports their healthy lifestyle. They conduct their own survey using a checklist-style questionnaire provided.

Students will learn about who is available for them to discuss their health with at school and within the community.
Students will learn about who is available for them to discuss health related issues on campus.
Lesson Plans Group 4
1. MY EMOTIONS PAPER DOLLS (K-2)
Students create paper dolls from the template provided to learn about the various emotions.
2. ROLE PLAY FOR YOUR HEALTH (K-2)
Students will act out scenarios they have seen at school or at home which conjure emotion. They will discover positive ways to arrive at resolution.
Students create a box for the class in which they can anonymously alert the teacher of any problems that need to be addressed in order to maintain an environment that is safe for everyone.

To help children gain confidence about safety and understand how they can prevent an emergency.
2. EMERGENCY PREVENTION: PART 2 FIRE SAFETY (3-5)
Children will gain a clear understanding of how to prevent fires and what to do in the event that a fire occurs.
3. EMERGENCY PREVENTION: PART 3 POISON SAFETY (3-5)
Children will gain a clear understanding of how to prevent being poisoned and what to do in the event that poisoning occurs.
4. EMERGENCY PREVENTION: PART 4 STRANGER & ABDUCTION DANGER (3-5)
Children will gain a clear understanding of how to prevent being abducted and what to do in the event that they are made to feel uncomfortable by a stranger.
Children will answer questions about emergency prevention to provoke thought and a plan of action.
6. CREATE A HEALTHIER ENVIRONMENT (3-5)
Children will learn how they can contirbute to the reduction of waste.
